Off the clock

Dad of two daughters who are the reason I keep learning. The rest of my time goes to things I can grow, cook, climb to or build.

Garden

Gardening

Every season starts indoors, with tomato and eggplant seedlings under grow lights. By summer the beds, mulched with straw and fed by drip line, are turning out onions, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, cabbage, zucchini and basil. I built Garden-Guru to track what went in and when it should come out.

Kitchen

Cooking

A lot of what I cook starts with whatever the garden handed me that week. The rest comes off the grill, the smoker or the pizza peel: skewers, brisket, salmon, and pizza on hand-tossed dough.

Outdoors

Outdoors

Camping and backpacking to alpine lakes, fishing off the granite, standing under giant sequoias, and one very good sunset at the Grand Canyon. The dog usually comes along.

A Bambu Lab P2S runs in the house. This lamp, shade and base, came off it.

Smart home

The house runs on Home Assistant. Writing automations by hand got tedious, so I built an assistant that drafts them from plain English and waits for my OK before it touches anything.
